Description
PhillyCAM is partnering with the Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia and Collaborative Cataloging Japan which organized the art exhibit, Community of Images, at the Philadelphia Art Alliance to welcome students ages 12-18 to participate in a unique 2-day experience. Youth participants will receive a guided tour of the exhibit, learning about early examples of the use of video technology and independent filmmaking for documentation of protests, communication, and alternative news reporting, followed by a hands-on workshop with PhillyCAM to create a short media piece as a creative response. No experience necessary! This workshop is intended for students interested in learning more about experimental and activist media.
Community of Images: Japanese Moving Image Artists in the US, 1960s-1970s, is an exhibition that explores experimental moving images created by Japanese artists and their connections to North America. The three main themes—Counterculture, Technology, and Identity— serve as entry points into the rich histories presented in the exhibition. For more information about the exhibit visit:
