Description

Cathode Ray Tapestries and blkpatches present short live video mixing sets interspersed with talkback & demos, demystifying the process of digital and analog video synthesizers and live processing.  By combining analog gear used in old TV broadcast studios with modern video synthesizers, Cathode Ray Tapestries (CRT) fuse seemingly disparate technologies, creating new forms of visual expression. CRT invites audience members to join them for a demo exploring video manipulation, including live camera feedback, luma Key, and chroma key techniques.

Enter the studio for a multisensory experience to learn how the medium of video can be stretched, mixed and tweaked in abstract ways.

Cathode Ray Tapestry participants are: Nia Benjamin, Sarah Milinski, Florence 444 Fire
Beginning in March 2023, Sound Museum Collective invited ten Philly-based artists from diverse disciplines to explore the art of analog video. For months, these residents met weekly to collectively learn techniques of video mixing, synthesis, and feedback. This project has continued to live on in variations of live installations, performances, events, and workshops.

blkpatches participants are Glain Hughes (aka Television Sky) and Chaka Benson. blkpatches is an art collective of black and brown artists who focus on creative visuals, synth, and sound design to give a current voice to a possible future.  Our goal is to amlify voices in this space, and build connections between other artistic disciplines.  We became active during the pandemic, and have worked with organizations such as Afrorack and Willie Mae Rock Camp.
